Best Beginnings is working collaboratively with healthcare professionals and teachers
We work to help end child heath inequalities by focusing on the period from before a child is born to their second birthday where the foundations of a healthy life are laid. We are committed to working towards a society where babies from all backgrounds have an equal chance of a healthy start and future.

Best Beginnings focuses on changing healthcare practice and outcomes in the care of infants across the UK. We address this challenge by:

  • developing a range of pioneering interventions and resources for healthcare professionals and families so that they have the information and support needed to protect children’s health and avoid preventable illnesses and death. We have a particular focus on engaging communities who experience the worst inequalities;
  • changing and challenging attitudes and behaviours by overcoming the misconceptions that foster inequalities in health care;
  • working collaboratively with healthcare professionals, other charities, academic institutions and policymakers to help ensure that what evidence demonstrates is best for a child’s health becomes the reality for all children irrespective of their background.
Our board of trustees includes experts from paediatrics, midwifery and mother and infant health. You can read more about the members of our board here.
