Best Beginnings was set up in 2006 as a catalyst for change, using innovative approaches to break down inequalities in child health in the UK.
The work of Best Beginnings is unique in the UK, making the most of the window of opportunity between preconception and two years of age where foundations for a healthy childhood can be laid.
Our approach is unique because we:
- Create dynamic, evidence-based resources, interventions and events for children, families and healthcare professionals, with a particular focus on engaging communities and groups experiencing the worst inequalities.
- Change and challenge attitudes and behaviours by overcoming the prejudices and misconceptions that foster inequalities in health care.
- Work collaboratively with health professionals, other charities and policy makers to ensure evidence-based information, support and high quality services are available for all.
Best Beginnings has the credibility, confidence and ambition to deliver new and pioneering approaches to improve children’s health.
Best Beginnings is aware of the importance of collaboration. Our major resources go through substantial stakeholder feedback processes. Our Small Wonders DVD was made with feedback from over 200 experts and many parents. We believe that for a resource to drive cultural change, it needs to be widely accepted by the healthcare professionals who are going to use it. Therefore we put major emphasis on gathering and implementing their feedback on the resources we make.
