Suicide is the biggest killer of women during pregnancy and the first year after their baby's birth. This is because more than 1 in 10 women will develop a mental illness during this time. Unfortunately, only around 50% of these women will be diagnosed or treated. Help us educate and empower women and end the stigma around maternal mental health.

How does Best Beginnings work to improve Maternal Mental Health in the UK?

Supporting parents

Best Beginnings approaches maternal mental health issues with parents through several routes. We have worked with the health care professionals and parents who have overcome mental health issues to create over 83 films for our mental health series, Out of the Blue.  This was launched in April, 2017 by The Duchess of Cambridge and has been endorsed by the Royal College of Psychiatrists and many other Royal Colleges. These videos are available online and in the our free Baby Buddy app.

Supporting healthcare professionals

We also provide resources for and train front-line health care professionals, such as midwives and health visitors, in their work around identification and understand of maternal mental health.

Ending the stigma with the Royal Foundation

Best Beginnings is proud to be one of 8 official charity partners of the Royal Foundation's Heads Together campaign which is spearheaded by The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry of Wales.

Please donate today to help us reach more women and health care professionals and end the stigma around maternal mental health.

Thank you,

The Best Beginnings Team
