Best Beginnings embraces NHS England and NHS Digital plans for the Maternity Transformation Programme, by offering co-creation and development of bespoke features in the Baby Buddy app, designed to address a local area's strategic health priorities. We adopt innovation through partnership to create bespoke app features that are unlocked and visible to Baby Buddy users in designated areas or postcodes.

As a pilot focused on self care capacity in Norfolk, Best Beginnings developed a new Goal Setting feature 'You can do it!' as well as a 'Patient Activation Measure' (PAM) feature in Baby Buddy app to support a parent's self care during pregnancy and after birth. The project was carried out in collaboration with The Eastern Academic Health Science Network and Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust. You can read more about the 'Just One Norfolk' project here.

'You can do it!' Goal Setting feature to support self care

The new interface and functionality of the "You Can Do It!" feature was informed by the Michie et al. theory of Behaviour Change, and put reflection at the heart of a user’s practice to achieve positive behaviour change before, during and after pregnancy.

'Patient Activation Measure' feature to support self care

When Baby Buddy users in Norfolk complete the Patient Activation Measure (PAM) questions within Baby Buddy, they are sent a personalised report to support them to better look after their own physical and mental wellbeing. This feature is being used in Norfolk to inform Health Visiting staff about how to better support the parents they work with.
