£150,000 of funding has been awarded to a portfolio of incredible organisations working to support women and birthing people to advocate for their maternal safety. This funding is part of the Safer Beginnings programme, led by Best Beginnings and the White Ribbon Alliance UK . Safer Beginnings aims to improve maternal health outcomes and post-partum safety of over 70,000 women across England, Wales and Scotland with a focus on reducing obstetric violence, domestic violence and FGM. Baby Buddy Local is a Best Beginnings initiative that enables participating localities to use the Baby Buddy app as a responsive public health tool through the incorporation of local information and promotion of local services via the app. The Project Manager role with support with building relationships and supporting services across Brimingham to integrate the app, including organising a launch event and exciting social media campaigns. Evidence suggests that more openly LGBTQ+ people are having children each year, yet little is known about their needs or experiences. This research project used funding from the Garfield Weston Foundation, in partnership with LGBT Mummies and the University of Huddersfield, to find out more about the needs of LGBTQ+ women and non-binary parents who had babies in the last two years. The Impact Lead will focus on developing Best Beginnings’ frameworks for monitoring and evaluating our national and international work ensuring that learning continues to be captured in ways that can be shared and used for effective advocacy and influencing. The successful candidate will also play a pivotal role influencing policy and its implementation within the maternity, early years, digital health and public health context. Read more
