For the past months Best Beginnings have been working with Solent NHS Trust, together with local health partners, University Hospitals Southampton NHS Foundation Trust and Portsmouth Hospitals Trust to integrate Baby Buddy into their healthcare pathways to support parents and healthcare professionals in the area.

On 6th (Portsmouth) and 13th of November (Southampton) we had a total of 30 multidisciplinary health professionals attending Co-creation and Planning’ workshop.

At these workshops, these Baby Buddy Champions spent time getting to know and understand Baby Buddy as a public health intervention in the form of a fun app. They co-created an action plan for incorporating the different functions of Baby Buddy into their day-to-day practice.

By Embedding Baby Buddy NHS Solent:

  • Enables professionals to know how to use the app to support their contacts with expectant and new parents
  • Provides a platform for cross-agency working
  • Provides information which can be used within existing parenting programmes in both session planning and reinforcing key messages between sessions
  • Maintains consistent use and sustainability due to the ability to localise information within the app and easily updates information from the evidence base.

“The app doesn’t seek to replace the role of health professionals. Rather, it acts as a tool to provide you with information that is reliable, accurate and is available 24 hours a day. With so much information available on the World Wide Web, it gives you assurance the information you get has been reviewed and verified by a number of trusted health bodies and professionals,” said Vicky Pennal, Health Visitor - Shirley Team, Southampton.

It’s been great to join forces with Solent NHS Trust to ensure that every child has the best start in life!

We will celebrate the work of the local Baby Buddy Champions so far, and launch the start of the 'embedding' plan in practice in Southampton and Portsmouth on Thursday 30 November.

We will have both parents and champions attending so this is a fun opportunity to hear about the development of the project and how the Baby Buddy app can benefit both parents and health professionals!
