Following record high download rates in Q4 2019, Baby Buddy was formally launched across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin at community events in Telford and Shrewsbury on Wednesday 23rd October.

Organised by the Local Maternity System (LMS); parents, babies, healthcare professional, local service providers and even the local mayor came together for a public celebration of the achievement.

The fun-filled events offered an opportunity to learn more about Baby Buddy, see live demonstrations from Mini First Aid, Hartbeeps and other local service providers, and to meet some of the Baby Buddy Champions that are working hard to integrate Baby Buddy resources into the maternity care pathway across the region.

The project has been led in partnership with Helen White, Project Support Officer for the LMS, who has tirelessly promoted Baby Buddy with radio interviews, media features and training of extra midwifery teams. With 40 Baby Buddy Champions trained, the region maintains consistently high levels of engagement with the app; in the latest quarter, 47% of the local birth cohort registered with Baby Buddy and 55% of app users have been using Baby Buddy at least once per day.

Personalised Push Notifications in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin

Beyond embedding Baby Buddy resources, the LMS has also partnered with Best Beginnings to design personalised push notifications that are delivered through Baby Buddy to all local app users at 28 weeks pregnant. The notifications are designed to encourage mums to check on foetal movement patterns and to contact the Triage Unit at Princess Royal Hospital in case a baby’s movements have changed.
