A baby born in Birmingham is five times for likely to die in infancy than a baby born in Bracknell Forest. Children born to parents in economic deprivation, parents who are very young or whose first language is not English, are also at greater risk of poor language development, obesity, chronic illness, depression and behavioural disorders. The suffering is enormous; the impact on society is huge.

Best Beginnings applies a concerted asset based approach to intervention to help address these unacceptable inequalities.
